# Privacy Policy

Effective 4 November 2026.

Seed is the app previously called Dictate. Seed collects no data. Audio transcription runs on your iPhone. The reading version also runs on your iPhone by default; you can choose Apple Private Cloud Compute on an eligible iOS 27 device. There is nothing to log into, and there are no servers of ours for anything to be sent to. This page says exactly where your recordings and transcripts can go.

## No accounts, no servers, no tracking

There is no sign-up, no login and no account. We run no backend for this app. There is no analytics SDK, no crash reporter, no advertising identifier and no tracking of any kind. Nothing you record reaches the developer.

## Your recordings

Audio and transcripts are stored in the app's own container on your device. They stay there until you delete them or enable automatic deletion. Personal Timeline highlights and strikethrough marks are stored locally alongside the recording; they do not change transcript text or enter webhook payloads.

## Where audio can go

Nowhere. Recordings are transcribed on your iPhone by Parakeet, which ships inside the app, or by Apple's on-device speech model. No network request is made for any of it. A recording made on the Apple Watch is sent to your own iPhone to be transcribed, and to nothing else.

## The reading version

On an iPhone with Apple Intelligence turned on, Seed asks Apple's on-device model to make a reading version of each transcript. The result is stored next to the original. A separate prompt generates a short title for new recordings in parallel, without replacing names you set yourself. On eligible iOS 27 devices, you can select Private Cloud Compute under Settings, Reading Version. With that option, transcript text and your Vocabulary terms (including terms not spoken in that recording) are sent to Apple's Private Cloud Compute servers to make the reading version and title; audio stays on your iPhone. If the service is unavailable, offline or at its usage limit, Seed makes the reading version and title on your iPhone instead. On-device processing remains the default.

## Where transcripts can go

If you configure a webhook under Settings, Advanced, each original transcript is POSTed to the URL you typed, and nowhere else. If you do not configure one, original transcripts are not sent to a webhook. Choosing Private Cloud Compute separately allows transcript text to be sent to Apple for the reading version and title.

## The signing secret

The webhook signing secret is stored in the iCloud Keychain, so a reinstall or a new phone keeps signing with the same secret and your receiver keeps trusting it. iCloud Keychain is end to end encrypted by Apple and is not visible to us. Only "Regenerate Secret" in Settings changes it.

## Permissions

Seed asks for microphone permission to record. If you enable New note notifications under Settings, Advanced, Shortcuts, it also asks for notification permission. This optional setting posts a local notification when a new original transcript is ready. The notification contains only a link identifying that note, not transcript text or audio. A Shortcuts automation you configure can use that link to retrieve the complete original transcript and pass it to actions you choose. Seed does not create or enable those automations, and their chosen destinations are under your control.

## Children

Seed is not directed at children and collects no data from anyone.

## Deleting everything

New installs automatically move recordings older than 7 days to Recently Deleted. Existing retention choices are preserved, and upgrades without a stored preference keep automatic deletion off. If enabled, recordings older than 1, 7 or 30 days move to Recently Deleted while you use Seed. Applying strikethrough to Timeline text does not delete a recording. Deleting a recording in the app moves it and its audio to Recently Deleted, where it stays on your device for 30 days and is removed for good the next time Seed opens after that; delete it from Recently Deleted to remove it at once. Delete the app to remove all of it, including the stored settings. Deleting the app removes the local recordings, transcripts and settings. Transcripts already delivered to your own webhook are yours to delete at that destination. If you chose Private Cloud Compute, transcript text was also processed by Apple under its Private Cloud Compute protections.

To stop a delayed Apple Watch transfer from restoring a deleted note, Seed retains that note's random recording identifier locally, including after permanent deletion or Delete All Recordings. This safety list contains no audio, transcript, name or recording date. Removing the app's data removes the list.

## Changes

If this policy changes, the effective date above changes with it.
