You press once and talk, and Seed writes it down on your iPhone. If something is not working, the checks below cover almost everything.
How it works
- Press the microphone on your iPhone or Apple Watch and talk.
- Press stop. The recording is saved on the device straight away.
- It is transcribed on your iPhone: by Parakeet, which detects the language, or by Apple Speech, which uses the language you pick. A recording from the Watch is sent to your iPhone first.
- With Apple Intelligence turned on, the reading version and a short title are made in parallel. Timeline collects the reading versions by day and time. Tap an entry’s time, or open Recordings, for the original text and audio playback. Cards place the recording time and duration together. Until a text preview is available, the preview line shows Transcribing while extracting words, then Processing text. The finished reading-version preview replaces that status.
- If you set up a webhook under Settings, Advanced, the original transcript is POSTed to your URL, signed, and retried if your endpoint is down.
Reading and managing notes
Spoken enumerations can become bullets, and actionable lists can become checklists. Tap a checkbox on iPhone or Watch to mark it done. Changes affect the reading version, leaving the original and webhook transcript unchanged. Cleanup can still miss a list or keep spoken fillers; check the original when the wording matters.
Stop Transcribing stays available while text is being processed. Stopping keeps the audio, original transcript and any results already saved. Timeline Copy and Share use the reading version. Inside an original recording, Copy exports the original text and Share offers original text or audio.
Long-press Timeline text and adjust the selection handles to choose a word or passage. Highlight adds a yellow mark; Strikethrough draws a line through the text. Select the same text again to choose Remove Highlight or Remove Strikethrough. These personal Timeline marks keep the recording and transcript text intact.
Settings, Recordings, Auto-delete offers deletion after 1, 7 or 30 days, or Never. New installs default to 7 days; existing choices and upgrades without a retention preference are preserved. Older recordings move to Recently Deleted while you use Seed, with 30 days to recover them. Restoring a recording restarts its retention period. Processing and delivery work are protected.
Search in Timeline finds and highlights reading-version text. Search in Recordings also checks recording names and original text. Open the top-right More menu for Settings. Recently Deleted is available directly above Settings in both Timeline and Recordings, and from an open recording. Deleting a recording moves it there immediately, without confirmation. Undo and Redo share one position beside Search after an edit or deletion. Redo appears there after undoing; further available Undo is in the More menu.
While your Watch records, the iPhone shows a message asking you to stop on the Watch. Each device manages its own recording. After stopping on Watch, a centered green checkmark briefly confirms “Sent to iPhone”. Record then returns while the handoff continues in the background. History shows any recordings still waiting for the phone.
To start immediately from the watch face, turn on Settings, Apple Watch, Start recording from complication on your iPhone. It is off by default; when off, the complication opens Seed and waits for you to press Record. The setting takes effect after it reaches the Watch.
First things to check
- Nothing records. Microphone access is off. Open iOS Settings, Seed, and turn Microphone on.
- The words are in the wrong language. Parakeet detects 25 languages. For another language, open Settings, pick Apple Speech, and choose your language; the picker offers only the languages this iPhone has models for, and the first recording downloads that language once.
- The reading version is unavailable. It needs Apple Intelligence. Turn it on in iOS Settings, Apple Intelligence & Siri. The original remains available. To try again, open the recording’s menu and choose Transcribe Again.
- Private Cloud Compute is unavailable. This reading-version option needs an eligible iPhone on iOS 27 with Apple Intelligence enabled. Select it under Settings, Reading Version, Model. It sends transcript text and Vocabulary terms to Apple for the reading version and title, keeps audio local, and uses the on-device model if the service is unavailable or at its usage limit. On-device processing remains the default.
- A name is spelled wrong. Open Settings, Language, Vocabulary and add its preferred spelling under Term, with the misheard words under Sounds like. Separate alternate sounds with commas. Reading versions and generated titles use these replacements; original transcripts and webhook text stay unchanged.
- The Watch says “Waiting for iPhone”. The Watch hands every recording to your iPhone. Bring the phone in reach and open Seed; the recording arrives and is transcribed.
- The webhook does not fire. Check that webhooks are enabled and that the destination is an HTTPS URL. Plain
http://is accepted only for localhost,.localhosts and private network addresses. Your endpoint has to answer with a 2xx status within 10 seconds. - Your receiver rejects the signature. The signature is an HMAC-SHA256 of the raw request body. Verify it against the raw bytes, before any JSON parsing. The webhook reference has a working example.
- The Apple Watch will not start. Only one device records at a time. The Watch says so in words when the iPhone is already recording, and the other way round.
